What's New > Improving IBD Knowledge and Health Literacy Among Recent Non-English Fluent Immigrants to Canada
Dr. Laura Targownik and her team at Mount Sinai Hospital are looking to collect information on the experiences of individuals who are living with an inflammatory bowel disease, were born outside of Canada, and are primarily fluent in Arabic, Farsi, Filipino/Tagalog, Hindi, Mandarin, Punjabi, and/or Spanish.
Through focus groups led in each of these languages, culturally relevant information on the care and management of IBD will be gathered.
Subsequently, this information will be used to guide the development of educational materials presented in each language that will be made widely available to Canadians.
Eligibility criteria for participants is:
- Having a diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn’s Disease (CD), or Ulcerative Colitis (UC)
- Not being optimally fluent in English
- Being a speaker of one of the following languages: Arabic, Farsi, Filipino/Tagalog, Hindi, Mandarin, Punjabi, and/or Spanish
- Having immigrated to Canada from another country (are a new Canadian)
