Research Topics in GI Disease Meeting
The annual CAG Research Topics in GI Disease meeting, held in advance of CDDW™, provides a unique educational opportunity for graduate students, medical students, and PhD/MD postdoctoral trainees (including adult or pediatric trainees beyond their core training i.e. “PGY5”) who are engaged in gastrointestinal research.
This small group meeting provides an intimate setting for participants to present their research findings, and engage in career development workshops and skill-building exercises among enthusiastic expert faculty in the field. Participants are required to register to attend CDDW™ and can take advantage of the incredible selection of topics and sessions in addition to a Trainee Mixer one evening.
Eligibility Criteria
Successful candidates will:
- Be a CAG Trainee Member at the time of abstract submission or will have applied to become one by December 1
- Be graduate students, medical students, PhD and MD postdoctoral trainees including adult or pediatric trainees [beyond their core training i.e. “PGY5”] engaged in gastrointestinal research
- Not have attended a Research Topics in GI Disease meeting before - there is an EXCEPTION in place for attendees of the virtual programs in 2021 and 2022.
Application Requirements
Abstract Submission
- Be identified as the presenting author on your abstract.
- Submit original research with complete results that reviewers can evaluate. Abstracts stating "results to follow" or "results to be presented" will not be considered.
- Only new data that has not been previously published or presented may be submitted. If you have added new data or findings to previously published or presented work, it is eligible for submission to both Research Topics and CDDW.
- Only one (1) Research Topics abstract submission is permitted per applicant.
Important: Your Research Topics abstract will automatically be submitted to the CDDW Core Program. Do not submit the same abstract separately to the Core Program.
Tip: Have your supervisor review and critique your abstract before submission to maximize your chances of acceptance.
Letter from Supervisor
Your supervisor must be a current CAG member and as part of the application process, you will need to upload a letter from your supervisor confirming:
- Your current position;
- That they (or your Program Director) have reviewed and approved your abstract submission; and
- That you completed the majority of the work.
Clinical trainees: Your letter from the supervisor letter must also confirm the training program in which you are enrolled and your current year of training (e.g., PGY level).
Submission Deadline
Abstract submissions close on October 15 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
Once the deadline has passed, the submission system will close. Draft abstracts cannot be submitted after the deadline, and no changes can be made to submitted abstracts.
If Your Abstract Is Accepted
- By submitting a Research Topics abstract, you agree to attend the Research Topics program and present your abstract at the CDDW Core Program if accepted.
- Registration for CDDW is required to present your abstract and is a separate process from abstract submission. You do not need to register before submitting your abstract; however, if accepted into GRIT, you must register for CDDW.
- You will receive an email from the CAG to confirm your acceptance and an invitation to the Trainee Programs Info Session where you’ll receive more program details and next steps.
Attendance Commitment
Research Topics is a competitive program with limited capacity. If you confirm your participation to attend and are absent from any portion of the program, your supervisor will be notified and invoiced $500 per day (or part thereof) missed. The approximate cost to CAG is $2,000 per participant, and full participation is expected.
