About Research

Advancing gastroenterology-related research is a cornerstone of the CAG’s mission and vital to improving healthcare delivery across Canada.

Supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and valued industry partners, the CAG offers outstanding funding opportunities for GI researchers nationwide. A key component of the program is CIHR’s supplemental funding, which enhances industry contributions and strengthens the overall impact of research investments.

Funding is available to CAG members at all training levels, including:

  • clinicians
  • postdoctoral PhD and MD research fellows
  • gastroenterology residents

The CAG currently offers six education and research grants and funded awards, in addition to our support of TRIANGLE

Impact of CAG Research

CAG's research program has been a great success, both in terms of generous support from industry, research output and the number and quality of alumni who have secured faculty positions in Canada. From inception through 2017, over 600 research awards have been supported. This amounts to more than $34 million worth of the highest quality research in the field of gastroenterology in Canada.
