Clinical Practice Guidelines & Consensus Reports
Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) and Consensus Reports provide practical recommendations for the management of gastrointestinal conditions. These documents are created by relevant CAG committees — such as Practice Affairs, Endoscopy, Pediatrics, Hepatobiliary, and Ethics — or by individual members with specific expertise.
Development Process
Literature Review:
Each guideline or report is based on a thorough review of current medical literature.
Member Input:
Drafts are shared with CAG members for feedback to ensure broad input and refinement.
Approval:
Final versions are reviewed and approved by the CAG Governing Board.
Purpose
- CPGs: Offer practical approaches to diagnosing, investigating, and managing clinical issues. They are designed to be useful for all physicians, though specialists may rely less on them.
- Consensus Reports: Provide comprehensive reviews and detailed analyses based on accepted consensus-building methods. These reports are particularly valuable for specialists requiring in-depth guidance.
Supporting Clinical Practice
CAG’s CPGs and Consensus Reports are essential tools for improving patient care and reducing variability in practice. They help ensure that gastroenterologists and other healthcare professionals have access to current, evidence-based recommendations.
Get Involved
CAG members are encouraged to contribute by participating in the development process, reviewing drafts, and proposing new topics. This collaborative approach ensures that CAG resources remain relevant and impactful.
