Position Description

The McGill University Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position as a Clinician-Teacher or Clinician-Educator at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical) based at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). The professorial rank will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

Job Duties 

The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice in the Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), which includes the Lachine Hospital, Montreal General Hospital and Royal Victoria Hospital.

We are seeking a full-time gastroenterologist as a Clinician-Teacher/Educator to take on the role of coordinating and overseeing the Division’s Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) activities. This will involve dedicating at least 30% of their time to UGME teaching.

As a Clinician-Teacher/Educator the successful candidate’s major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of physicians. Teaching activity will include both didactic and clinical teaching. The Clinician-Teacher/Educator will work at the three MUHC sites.

The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications / Required Skills

Candidates must:

• Hold an MD degree and must hold, or be eligible for, licensure in the province ofQuebec;

• Have completed subspecialty training in Gastroenterology;

• Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);

• Be certified by the Collège des Médecins du Québec;

• Have completed a dedicated clinical fellowship in any clinical area of their choice;

• Completing a Master’s in Education or Administration or Quality is an asset (but not obligatory);

• Have clinical experience in endoscopy and possess the ability to endoscopically manage acute GI emergencies; • Applicants should have a strong and demonstrable interest in patient care, teaching, and innovation;

• Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
