Job Description / Duties
The Division of Gastroenterology at Vancouver General Hospital seeks a gastroenterologist who is qualified in the area of therapeutic endoscopy. The candidate must have completed an advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowship beyond core gastroenterology training at a Canadian, American or European university centre. Specifically, training in advanced endoscopic tissue resection is required for the establishment and leadership of a program based at VGH.
The successful applicant will show demonstrated potential in teaching and will be expected to participate in the undergraduate as well as postgraduate teaching activities of the Division and Department.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be appointed as a clinical faculty member in the UBC Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine.
Qualifications / Required Skills
A minimum of two years of experience, either via a two-year gastroenterology fellowship or its equivalent in clinical experience beyond fellowship, at an academic centre, is mandatory. In addition, two years of training in advanced endoscopic techniques is required. As noted, dedicated experience and training with third space endoscopy, endoscopic mucosal resection, endoscopic submucosal dissection and other advanced tissue resection techniques is required. Academic proficiency as reflected by the acquisition of an advanced academic degree beyond a
basic medical degree (e.g. MSc, PhD or MD by thesis) and a strong publication and teaching record are preferable.
The candidate must also have Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada certification in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. In addition, the successful candidate must be eligible to be licensed to practice as a Gastroenterologist in the Province of British Columbia.
