Job Description / Duties
- Provide full scope of Gastroenterology practice
- Participate in Internal Medicine call rotation
- Provide support to your own site
- Be responsible to the Zone Department Head for Internal Medicine for professional responsibilities and quality of practice
- Operate with the Medical Staff Bylaws of Nova Scotia Health
- Participate in teaching both medical students and internal medicine residents and fellows
Full-time, compensation is fee for service with flexible vacation time.
Endoscopy time is contingent with clinical practice and wait times. A Gastroenterologist is retiring leading to the availability of this position.
On-call requirement (1:9 at full complement)
Flexible vacation; maternity/paternity leave (Doctors Nova Scotia); health and dental benefits (Doctors Nova Scotia)
Compensation is fee for service - annual income will depend solely on your own clinical output
Specialists receive call stipends and other incentives as available through the Master Agreement of Nova Scotia
Qualifications / Required Skills
Candidates must be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Internal Medicine and be eligible or passed the Fellowship Exam in Gastroenterology.
Must hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).

About the Opportunity
Join a group of eight IM physicians including General Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology and Respirology. This position is starting in July 2025 although this is negotiable.
The IM Physicians typically use an EMR- MedAcess or Accuro.
South Shore Regional (SSRH) offers echocardiography, exercise stress testing with nuclear imaging and dobutamine stress testing, pacemaker insertion and follow up, endoscopy (therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy), PFTs and a Sleep Lab. There is a Cardiac Rehab Clinic managed by a Nurse Practitioner in collaboration with Internal Medicine Physicians.
SSRH is a community site for the Internal Medicine program at Dalhousie University with approximately 8-10 residents per year as well as 6 Longitudinal Integrative Clerkship Medical Students. This provides an opportunity to work as a preceptor with medical students & residents. The candidate is expected to participate in the call schedule for ICU and IM as well as provide outpatient care appropriate to their subspecialty. Call covers the SSRH along with offering advice and transferring patients from the nearby Fishermen's Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg and Queen's General Hospital in Liverpool.
