Job Description / Duties
St. Mary’s General Hospital and Grand River Hospital are currently seeking a Gastroenterologist beginning June 2025. Additional training in IBD, hepatology or motility would be an asset.
You would be joining a division of gastroenterology that currently consists of 9 gastroenterologists who provide inpatient consultation and MRP for both hospitals as well as maintain a community-based practice. Call coverage is expected to be 1 in 9 with no general internal medicine call obligations. Dedicated endoscopy nurses are available for after hours emergencies. Endoscopy resources are shared equitably. You will also have the opportunity to teach medical students and residents and/or research through our affiliation with McMaster University Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine.
Qualifications / Required Skills
Candidates must possess or be able to obtain an unrestricted license to practice medicine in Ontario with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and must hold or be eligible for fellowship in Gastroenterology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital are two separately governed hospitals that function as an integrated system with well-defined and complementary clinical programs to serve both the local community and the region. Each hospital has acute care ED services with patient volumes reaching approximately 70,000 visits/annum. St. Mary’s General Hospital is a Regional Cardiac Care Centre and a Centre of Excellence for Respiratory and Thoracic Care. Grand River Hospital hosts several regional programs including the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, Hepatobiliary Surgery, and stroke, renal, pediatric and mental health programs.
The internal medicine program is represented by specialists in cardiology, critical care, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general internal medicine, geriatrics, hematology, infectious diseases, medical oncology, nephrology, respirology. There are regularly scheduled interdisciplinary medical rounds, journal club and guest speakers. Additionally, there is diagnostic imaging support with access to interventional DI. The hospitals support a full-time pulmonary function lab, endoscopy unit, non-interventional cath lab, and nuclear medicine.
