CAG Supports Campaign to End “Fail First” Policies for IBD

posted on Nov 24, 2025

CAG is proud to endorse Crohn’s & Colitis Canada’s national campaign to end harmful “fail first” policies that delay access to effective treatments for people living with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

These policies force patients to try older, less effective drugs before they can qualify for the newer therapies their doctors believe will help — driving prolonged suffering, greater disease progression, and inefficiencies in care.

CAG has submitted letters of support to the Ontario and Nova Scotia governments to advocate for ending "fail first" policies. These letters reinforce the need for evidence-based, patient-centred policies that allow clinicians to select the most appropriate therapy from the outset.

We encourage our members to join this important advocacy effort by signing the petition and amplifying the message that access to effective treatment must be based on clinical need — not on bureaucratic hoops.
