Applications Now Open: JCAG Editorial Fellowship 2026

posted on Mar 17, 2026

Applications are now open for the 2026 Editorial Fellowship with the Journal of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (JCAG). This unique opportunity provides trainees and early-career researchers with hands-on experience in the scientific publishing process and the peer review system.

During the one-year fellowship, the fellow will work closely with Eric Benchimol, Editor-in-Chief of JCAG, along with the journal’s Associate Editors. The fellow will gain direct, immersive experience in how manuscripts move through the publication process — from submission and reviewer selection to editorial decision and final publication. Along the way, the fellow will develop skills in critically evaluating research, identifying methodological strengths and weaknesses, and understanding the broader landscape of academic publishing.

The fellow will collaborate on approximately 4-6 manuscripts, participate in editorial discussions and training, attend virtual Editorial Board meetings, and join monthly meetings with the journal’s publisher, to gain insight into the operations of a leading scientific journal.

Additional activities include reviewer training, contributing manuscript reviews under the guidance of editors, and authoring an editorial article for publication in JCAG. The fellow will also attend the JCAG Editorial Board meeting at Canadian Digestive Diseases Week 2027 in Vancouver, where they will present what they learned during the program. Upon successful completion of the fellowship, he individual will be offered a position on the journal’s Editorial Board.

Application deadline: May 22, 2026.
