GRIT Course

The Gastroenterology Residents-in-Training (GRIT) Course is held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the CAG. The intensive, three-day course is designed to provide first and second year adult and pediatric gastroenterology trainees with the chance to:

• Present their data orally or as a poster.
• Cover timely topics of interest and obtain up-to-date information in a context that allows critical evaluation.
• Interact and network with other residents - an opportunity rarely available given the size of the country.
• Interact closely with a small number of recognized, effective Canadian teachers.

Information on the meeting and a call for abstracts is sent to gastroenterology program directors for announcement to trainees several months before the meeting.  All interested trainees MUST submit an abstract by the specified deadline.  The Course Co-Chairs select applicants based on the quality of their abstract, with travel, accommodation and meals expenses being covered for successful candidates as per Course guidelines.

Scholars’ Program

The CAG Scholars' Program, also held in association with the annual meeting of the CAG, is designed for 3rd and 4th year medical students and PGY1 and PGY2 internal medical residents.  The aim is to attract the most promising students and residents to gastroenterology, by providing them a broad overview of what a career in gastroenterology entails and allowing them to interact with faculty.

As with the GRIT Course, the Scholars’ Program is announced to the Gastroenterology Program Directors, and Deans of Medicine months beforehand.  Applications must be signed by the university program or divisional director for gastroenterology, and candidates are selected based by the Program Co-Chairs based on the strength of their application.  Travel, accommodation and meal expenses are covered for successful applicants as per Program guidelines.

Residents’ Videoconference
