Young Educator Development Award

The Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (CAG) through the Education Committee strongly supports the development and maintenance of formal education research and program development within Gastroenterology in Canada. The CAG, in partnership with Nycomed Canada, is pleased to offer a new award aimed to foster, maintain, and grow this important role within Canadian Gastroenterology.

THE AWARD
This Young Educator Development Award is aimed at recent graduates (within five years of graduation from a gastroenterology training program) with a faculty position, who have chosen an education career path. Candidates will be either enrolled in, or having completed, a Masters in Education program, with a faculty position at a Canadian university (preferably with a gastroenterology fellowship training program).

This award is aimed specifically at candidates who have a commitment from their supporting University for a faculty appointment with a major emphasis on medical education and specific plans of program development and /or educational research.

TERMS OF THE AWARD

  • The award is for a period of one year, is not renewable, and requires a letter from the institution confirming that the applicant is enrolled in an education program.
  • The award is for a maximum of $40,000.
  • The funds may be used for research support or salary support (only in instances where salary support is not already available from other sources).

REQUIREMENT OF THE AWARD
The awardee will also be given the opportunity to attend the "Train the Trainers" conference, a prestigious annual international training program in gastroenterology organised by the World Gastroenterology Organisation. The awardee will also be expected to report their progress to the Education Committee of the CAG and to present a summary of their education program development at the annual meeting of the CAG, Canadian Digestive Disease Week.
